Dash Kits Installation – A Step-by-Step Guide
One great way to spruce up the interior of your vehicle is to enhance it with wood trim. You don’t need to have a luxury car to benefit from the visual appeal of wood trim added to your dash kit. These days vehicle owners are always looking for ways to add style and class to their cars and trucks.
Installing the wood trim to your car or truck is very easy. Not only is it easy, it is a great way to enhance the value of your vehicle. Following these few installation tips will provide you a fast easy way of performing your own wood trim dash kit installation.
Step 1. Check the fit and alignment.
You want to be sure the wood trim fits easily into your dash kit before completely installing it. Forcing the wood trim into the dash kit could result in breakage of your wood trim. Most companies that sell wood trim will not give you your money back because you botched the installation. If you try to return the broken piece of trim, the company will be able to tell if it broke due to a mistake in its manufacturing or in its installation.

Your wood trim kit will come with its own type of adhesive. Some will have tubes others will have pads. The important thing to remember in this step is to try not to get the adhesive on surfaces that will not be covered by your wood trim. Don’t make a mess!
Step 4. Apply wood trim to dash kit.
There are a couple different things you want to do when installing your wood trim to the dash kit. You need to separate your pieces into large pieces and small pieces.
For the large pieces carefully reposition wood trim in place. Carefully pull back top half and remove the liner from the back of the trim. Starting at the middle and working towards the top, carefully press trim into position. Gently lift lower portion and remove the rest of the liner backing. Starting from the middle and working down, carefully press trim into place.
Step 5. Final Step-Press the trim onto the dash kit.
You are now ready to press the wood trim kit onto the dash kits exterior. Do this to each piece contained in your kit. Once you are completed, you will have a classy look and feel for the interior of your vehicle!

How I Fixed the Weak Brakes on My Chrysler 300
Admittedly I am a lead-foot. And, my 300 is happy to comply with my speed demands. Chrysler got that part right. But when it comes time to halt the mass of my silver bullet, the brakes shutter a little and fade fast. This can be a little scary.
A few weeks ago I took a trip to the Sierras for a weekend fishing trip. On my return, dropping down from 9,000 feet, I was made painfully aware of just how under-engineered my stock brakes were. I came hauling around a corner to find a Ford truck going way too slow and I had to hit the brakes pretty hard. To my dismay, they barely had enough stopping power to keep me from destroying my beautiful front end. My stopping power had faded so much that, I swear, it was like trying to stop a train Fred Flintstone-style – with my feet. It was at that moment I decided to replace my stock brake rotors.
I have had this thought before but haven’t wanted to fork out the extra dough for better brake rotors. And, I wouldn’t trust myself to install them properly. This incident changed my mind and when I got back to sea-level I started my research.
The first thing I did was go to Google and searched for brakes but this proved too generic. Then I did a search for performance rotors and came across a couple decent looking websites. Turns out there is a huge market for aftermarket rotors, I guess I am not the only one with this need. I don’t really know any brands so I relied on the customer reviews. The two brands that stuck out as positive from a performance and price standpoint were EBC rotors and Power Slot rotors. I thought they would be a lot more expensive but a set of front rotors is actually pretty affordable.
I also learned about slotted rotors and how they help conduct heat away from the rotors which is one of the things that creates fade. But the other thing is that these performance rotors are also larger in diameter then stock rotors so they have more surface area. The EBC brand was pricier then the Power Slot brand, I think because they also have these dimples which I presume help to cool the rotors more efficiently. In the end, I figured that it wasn’t that big of a difference and purchased the cheaper Power Slot rotors.
The next think I needed to do was decide whether or not I would install them myself. The sales agent that sold me the rotors said it was pretty simple. But, I am a musician and don’t want to destroy my hands so I contacted my local auto mechanic and asked him how much he would charge to install them. He said it would take about two hours. I figured this was worth the piece of mind that comes with proper installation.
I got my rotors in like three days, took my beloved 300 to the mechanic and now I am driving and stopping in style.
Hot Wheels Modified
I wrote and article about two months ago on the popularity of Hot Wheels. I did it because I found some sites to feature on my hobbies page and I had not realized how popular the toys were to collect. Do not let the title of this article fool you, I am not modifying my previous article. Out of the approximately thirty articles I have written in the past months the article about Hot Wheels was my most popular. I decided to look more into this hobby.
Part of my research consisted of trying to contact some webmasters focusing on Hot Wheels. I spoke with the owner of http://www.z-mods.com. I tried to find out what it is about these toys that drew such a following. The owner’s name is Steve Zalimas. He has been playing with and collecting these cars since he was little. He does not recall what drew him to it. He did not even know other people collected them until the last ten years or so.
What Steve did share with me is the not only are the original Hot Wheels worth money but he makes most of his money off of his modified cars, hence the title of this article. Steve said he has been modifying these cars for a few years now. The modifications consist of things as simple as changing wheels to a more rare set of wheels, unique paint jobs, turning hard top cars into convertibles and more. No car he modifies is the same. He cannot remember all the different combinations he has done over the years but estimates they are in the dozens.
Steve also indicated that he has built a nice list of repeat customers over the years as well. “This is not a high production business by any means. You are working with very small cars and some of the detail work involved to produce a high quality car is time consuming and requires a lot of patience.” This was a quote offered by Steve in one of our e-mails back and forth. He also told me that he will even do a car based on a customer’s specifications on a rare occasion. Steve spends most of his time on the collecting of the cars because the rare cars are just not plentiful enough to supply his modification side of things. He did ask me to pass along a message, which I will gladly do because he gave me the courtesy of helping me in researching this article, that if you do not see a car on his site for sale to contact him. They sell off faster than he can produce them so he may be working on the exact modification you are looking for.
Steve does this as a hobby and for relaxation mostly. He is not in it for the money so he couldn’t give me an estimate on how much he has made over the years with his modifications. He said he doesn’t always sell them for money either, sometimes he will trade a modified car for a car he has been needing for his personal collection. It is obvious that this hobby is hotter than I ever expected.

Classic Car Found
It is always a celebration whenever a classic car is discovered, but when it turns out to be an uncommon car too, the news is brought into the attention of classic car collectors and enthusiasts. One of those moments was the rediscover of a Bugatti with chassis number 57502, an uncommon French sports coupe manufactured in 1937. The classic car found in a barn in Newcastle, England, after over 48 years of being parked in a garage, is one of the only 17 cars of that type ever built.
In 1937 the car was bought by Earl Howe who, after owning it for eight years, sold it to a different person. The automobile continued to change owners until 1955 when it has been sold to Harold Carr, the owner that kept it in the garage for 48 years, after driving it just for a few years. This classic car was found in England after the death of Harold Carr and was sold at a bidding in 2009 by the Bonhams house of auction. Due to its rarity, original condition and low mileage, the vehicle was likely to be sold for approximately £6 million. But in reality the car’s price tag was of £2,989,495.
2010 was another year when other beautiful, rare classic cars were discovered. I’m talking about an uncommon Chrysler 300 found in Berkley, surrounded by cleaning equipment and covered inside by dust. But you could not help noticing its intact red, white and blue “300-D” emblem that proved the car was an authentic, a well-preserved 1959 300-E hardtop. In fact, a couple of Chrysler cars were discovered there: a 1958 and a 1959 models.
These Chrysler cars are gorgeous cars, produced by the manufacturer between 1955 and 1965 and highly appreciated by car collectors all over the world. And that’s normal, due to the exceptional style and the luxurious interiors covered in leather. Their popularity can also be caused by the low number of units produced. The vehicle found is one of the 22 top cars produced by the manufacturer with Bendix fuel injection. The fuel injection system turned out to have some problems and all the 22 manufactured cars were recalled and equipped with four-barrel carburetors and sent back to their owners. Nowadays, just a few of these cars continue to exist and be a part of the automotive history. Moreover, the new owner chose to restore it in order to show the respect it deserves.
Incredible or not, another classic car found recently is a 1925 Bugatti Type 22 that was discovered at the bottom of a Swiss lake, full of rust. Despite its condition, the automobile was sold for 260,500 Euros in Paris at the 2010 edition of the Retro Mobile classic car show. It wasn’t probably the most valuable car sold throughout the Bonhams auction, but its history is impressive. The money went to charity.
This Bugatti’s chassis number is 2461 and the engine number is 879. It is a car built in 1925 and originally bought by a France customer that lived in Nance and who sold it to some Parisian owner. Although only 20% from the original car was still in good condition, the car’s price tag was high. The iron and the steel have suffered more damage, but the wood, the aluminum, the brass and also the rubber were better preserved with the help of a restoring session. Let’s hope that another beauty will be saved!

Ralph V. Gilles understands this process. He dropped out of college and was spending most of his time, by his own admission, slacking in his parents’ basement, eating granola, watching “Dukes of Hazard” reruns and lamenting the sorry state of automobiles being made in America.
Growing up, Gilles was typical of most boys who played with Hot Wheels and Formula 1 model cars. But, as a teenager, he also was extremely talented in sketching vehicles. In fact, his aunt wrote a letter to then Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca, saying he should hire her 14-year-old nephew.
A Chrysler executive responded, recommending three design schools. Soon afterward, however, the letter was lost and forgotten. Meanwhile, the car-crazy Gilles completed high school and enrolled in college to study engineering, but dropped out quickly. His reason: “I was in a funk and was really not sure I wanted to be an engineer.”
As he continued his granola, “Dukes of Hazard” routine down in the basement, Ralph’s older brother, Max, recalled the letter from Chrysler. He remembered that one of the recommended schools was Detroit’s College for Creative Studies. Upset to see Ralph wasting his time and talent, Max pushed his brother to apply to the local school although the application deadline was only a week away and would require 10 sketches.
At that point, the whole family became involved, making Ralph coffee so he could complete his sketches, cheering him on and helping wherever they could. By the end of the week, Ralph was covered in pencil lead, but the sketches were complete, so his mother sent the packet to the school by overnight delivery.
Today, Ralph V. Gilles is recognized as the innovator of the Chrysler 300 sedan and the Dodge Magnum Wagon I in addition to being responsible for the 2002 Jeep Liberty, 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 and several concept cars. Dubbed as the Chrysler Group’s newest darling, Gilles has earned numerous national and international accolades. He has since been promoted to Design Director for Chrysler.

Today’s fast-paced, efficiency-minded organizations make it especially challenging for leaders to always ensure a good fit. It’s common to find employees picking up the slack for positions that have been eliminated. If personnel reductions aren’t executed carefully, the remaining employees can find themselves underemployed and consumed by “leftover” tasks that drain their time but don’t tap their minds.
